Volunteer at Yacolt Primary

From kindergarten to high school and taking on a variety of roles, volunteers from the community help our students succeed. You don’t need teaching or professional experience to volunteer. The most important qualification is a genuine interest in helping our students and teachers maximize their potential. Ready to get started?

Volunteer opportunities in Battle Ground schools

Primary schools (Captain Strong, Daybreak, Glenwood Heights, Maple Grove, Pleasant Valley, Tukes Valley, Yacolt)

  • Helping at recess and/or in the cafeteria (1-2 hours)

  • Helping in classrooms (flexible time commitment)

  • Greeting students in the morning as they are dropped off or enter the school (30 minutes)

  • Helping with student pickup in the afternoon (30 minutes)

  • Serving as a member of a school's positive behavior support team (1 hour per week)

  • Reading with students as a reading buddy (1 hour per week) through Read Northwest.

High schools (Battle Ground and Prairie)

  • Greeting students in the morning as they enter the school (30 minutes)

  • Helping with monitor the cafeteria during lunches (2 hours)

  • Monitoring school hallways and non-classroom areas (flexible time commitment)

  • Tutoring students (1 hour)

Middle schools (Amboy, Chief, Daybreak, Laurin, Pleasant Valley, Tukes Valley)

  • Helping at recess and/or in the cafeteria (2-3 hours)

  • Helping in classrooms (flexible time commitment)

  • Greeting students in the morning as they are dropped off or enter the school (30 minutes)

  • Helping with student pickup in the afternoon (30 minutes)

  • Assisting with school stores and/or special events (1-2 hours)

  • Serving as a member of a school's positive behavior support team (1 hour per week)

  • Tutoring students (1 hour)

Alternative learning schools (Battle Ground Virtual Academy, CAM Academy, River HomeLink and Summit View High School)

  • Helping in the school office / answering phones (flexible time commitment)

  • Helping in classrooms (flexible time commitment)

  • Helping at recess and/or in the cafeteria (1-2 hours)

  • Working with students in small groups (1-2 hours)

How to get started

Step 1

Read the volunteer handbook/expectations agreement.

Note: This step is not required if you are simply attending a school assembly, having lunch with your child, or attending a classroom party. In this case, you would be considered a visitor not a volunteer.

Step 2

Complete the required volunteer screening form. If you are a paid employee of Battle Ground Public Schools, fill out the volunteer application form for staff. 

By submitting your application to volunteer for Battle Ground Public Schools, you verify that you have read and understand the expectations and appropriate behaviors while volunteering with BGPS.

Step 3

Visit the school at which you will be volunteering and present your valid Washington photo identification*. This must be done in person. Once validated, it takes approximately 5-7 business days to complete the criminal history background check. The information disclosed through the clearance process will be used only to determine eligibility to volunteer, and will not be used or disseminated for any other purposes. Volunteer clearance is valid for two years from the issue date. 

*If you are not a Washington resident, please contact the school’s secretary for instructions for starting the out-of-state volunteer application, which is a different process and includes a fee for a background check.

Coaches and overnight field trips
If you are interested in volunteering as a coach or for an overnight field trip, please contact the school at which you wish to volunteer to see what type of clearance will be needed. There may be a cost associated with the required clearance.
